Options are many for helping the homeless [Letter]

The debate about how to help the chronically homeless in Howard County rages on, and while many think the county's proposed expansion of the Day Resource Center adjacent to its existing location in North Laurel is the best option, I applaud the efforts of concerned residents in the area to investigate options such as repurposing the Ascend One Building in Columbia. I don't see this idea as a "red herring." In fact I think those who easily dismiss it have fallen into "group think."

I have difficulty understanding seeing how people who purport to be advocates for the homeless are fixated on construction of a building, rather than providing immediate assistance and dignified housing options throughout the county.

We need immediate shelter, not just apartments, in addition to compassion and creative thinking to get the needs of the homeless throughout the county met.
