Howard County police have identified the 22-year-old pedestrian killed in a collision Wednesday morning as Marcus Antonio Fletcher, of Laurel, who was struck by a car along Route 1 in Laurel.
Washington Boulevard was closed between Whiskey Bottom and Maier Roads for roughly three hours, police said, but reopened around 11 a.m.
Police said Fletcher was hit by a Toyota Camry around 6:24 a.m. as the car was traveling northbound in the 9700 block of Washington Boulevard near Country Meadows Lane. Police later found that Fletcher was not in the cross walk at the time of the collision.
He was pronounced dead at Laurel Regional Hospital.
The driver and sole-occupant, Frank Thomas Lee, 47, of Laurel, was not injured, and police said no other vehicles were involved.
An investigation is ongoing.
This marks the second fatality on Route 1 in nearly two weeks.
On Feb. 11, pedestrian Johnny Ray Wines, 56, was hit by a Hyundai Elantra traveling southbound on the 9800 block of Route 1, police reported. The driver of the vehicle, Gennadiy Lotkin, 60, and a 6-month-old passenger were not injured in the collision.
