Police identify Laurel man struck and killed by train

Laurel Police today identified the 19-year-old man struck and killed by a train in Laurel Tuesday evening as Dontay Lamont Owensby, of the 8700 block of Dulwick Court, in South Laurel.

He was found dead by authorities at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday along the CSX train tracks near the 800 block of Lafayette Avenue, police said.

Police said Owensby's injuries were consistent with being struck by a northbound train, and after initial investigation believe it was an accident.

Police said that earlier Tuesday evening, a MARC commuter train operator had filed a suspicious person report after seeing a man, who police said matched Owensby's description, running along the tracks between Bowie Road and the Laurel MARC station.
