Early morning fire damages Laurel garage

An early morning fire in a Laurel house garage required departments from three counties to extinguish, but Howard County officials said no one was injured in the blaze.

Officials said at approximately 3:30 a.m. departments from Howard, Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties responded to a report of a fire in the 9500 block of Old Lantern Way. The fire crews discovered smoke emanating from the detached garage of a single story residence. Residents had evacuated the home, and the fire had not spread to any neighboring structures, officials said.

The fire was under control approximately an hour later without injuries, officials said. Structural damage has been assessed at around $150,000, and its residents – three adults and three children – have been displaced, officials said. The fire's origin and cause are under investigation, officials said.
