HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The MPSSAA released the state boys and girls soccer championship brackets on Monday.
River Hill and Mt. Hebron boys earned No. 1 seeds in their respective sections, while River Hill and Atholton girls are seeded first in their brackets.
In the boys state championship bracket, the county champion Hawks sit atop the 2A South, Section I and have a first-round bye. They will face the winner of No. 4 Hammond or No. 5 Wilde Lake on Oct. 31. Oakland Mills is the No. 2 seed and also has a bye. It will play the winner of No. 3 Marriotts Ridge and No. 6 Glenelg, which face-off in the opening round on Oct. 27.
The Vikings, who reached the state championship game last fall, have a bye in the 3A East, Section I bracket. They will play the winner of No. 4 Reservoir and No. 5 Long Reach in the second round. Centennial is the No. 2 seed and will play No. 3 Atholton.
Howard has the No. 4 seed in 4A North, Section I and will host No. 5 Mervo in the opening round. The winner will play No. 1 seed Catonsville on Oct. 31.

In the girls championship bracket, county champions and defending state champions River Hill has a first-round bye in 2A South, Section I and will face the winner of No. 4 Glenelg and No. 5 Hammond. Wilde Lake is the No. 2 seed and will play either No. 3 Marriotts Ridge or No. 6 Oakland Mills in the second round on Oct. 31.
Atholton is the top seed in 3A East, Section I and will play the winner of No. 4 Centennial and No. 5 Long Reach. No. 2 seed Mt. Hebron will face No. 3 Reservoir in the second round.
Howard is the No. 3 seed in 4A North, Section I and will play No. 2 Western after a first-round bye. Perry Hall is the top seed in the section.
