At the end of a stretch of five games in eight days, Long Reach earned the prize it was striving for on Saturday.
The Lightning defeated visiting Marriotts Ridge 88-54, securing a share of the first county championship in program history. Long Reach (15-1, 17-2) shares the crown this winter with Howard (15-1, 21-1), which has now been sole or co-county champs three straight seasons.
Kiana Williams scored 26 points to lead the way in the victory, while Lyric Swann (25 points) and Arianna Briggs-Hall (21) also had standout offensive efforts. It marks the second time this season that the Lightning have had three different players score 20 or more points in the same game.
Hope Morath led the way for Marriotts Ridge with a season-high 15 points to go along with 11 rebounds in the loss.
The game itself was fairly close during most of the first half, with the Lightning leading 28-17 after the first quarter and 45-32 at the half. But in the third quarter, Long Reach pulled away by outscoring the Mustangs 26-7 in the period to open up a 32-point lead.
