Howard County community unites in support of Oakland Mills grad Larry Aaron

Friday night, Howard County’s basketball teams went green.

In a display of solidarity between the county’s public schools following Oakland Mills graduate Larry Aaron being shot and paralyzed from a stray bullet at a New Year’s Eve party in Severn, boys and girls teams around the area donned green “93 Strong” T-Shirts during warm-ups prior to their games on Feb. 2.

Aaron, who just finished his freshman season at Marshall University, wore the No. 93 for the Thundering Herd football team. The same shirts that were worn by the players in warm-ups were also sold at the games around the county, with all proceeds being donated to the Aaron family.

Aaron himself attended the boys game between Oakland Mills and Hammond, coming onto the floor and surprising a sold-out crowd right before the host Scorpions’ starting lineup was announced.

He watched the game, which Oakland Mills went on to win 68-55, courtside.

The outpouring of support from the Howard County community has been overwhelming since the incident a little over a month ago. Friday was the most recent of a long list of fundraising efforts.

Included was an event at the Ledo’s Pizza in Fulton on Jan. 30.
