The Howard County Warhawks U14 squad broke through on a national stage last weekend.
Posting a 6-0 record and conceding only three goals over the course of those contests, the Warhawks won the USA Field Hockey U14 Disney Showcase. The event is one of two major tournaments hosted annually by USAFH and for the Maryland-based club, supported by Howard County Recreation and Parks, it is the first major tournament victory since its establishment in 2013.
The Warhawks U14 team features 11 players and is coached by current Glenelg High School varsity coach Nikki Trunzo and Glenelg High School JV coach Courtney Abell. The players are: AJ Eyre, Brinkley Eyre, Megan Frank, Kamryn Henson, Natalie Machiran, Sarah Mudd, Audrey Mullen, Riley Oakes, Hala Silverstein, Theresa Stiller and Cammie Tracy.
Over the course of the tournament the team defeated several programs ranked ahead of them in the December USA Field Hockey National Club Rankings, including a 5-1 victory in the championship over No. 11 Jersey Intensity.
Prior to that, the Warhawks — ranked No. 28 — also earned a 5-1 win over eighth-ranked TOCYO based out of Virginia Beach in the semis and early-tournament victories over top-15 programs Stealth (KY) and Wizards (MA).
