Several Howard County teams competed at the Penn Relays April 30, but Oakland Mills senior Brit Lang and Scorpions alum Stefan Pastor highlighted the local contingent, as Lang qualified in the 3,000-meter race, while Pastor was inducted in the Penn Relays Hall of Fame.
Lang was the only Howard County athlete who qualified for an individual event. The University of North Florida bound senior ran a personal best of 10 minutes and 2 seconds and placed 18th overall in the 3,000.
Pastor, a 2001 Oakland Mills graduate, ran collegiately at the University of Florida and was inducted into the Penn Relays Hall of Fame for a record set by he and his 4x400-meter relay team in 2004. Pastor, along with teammates Sekou Clarke, Reggie Witherspoon and Kerron Clement, set a record time of 3 minutes and 1.1 seconds at the meet, a mark which still stands today. It is the fourth-longest record span in the oldest Penn Relay events.
Atholton, River Hill and Mt. Hebron, were among the county squads that competed in team events April 30 as well.
