The sophomore scored on two nearly identical second-half plays.

"I was on post and Claudia [Rodriguez-Jones] and Megan [Mantsch] did a quick pass and I swept it in," Thompson said.

The two goals by Thompson gave the Golden Bears a 2-0 halftime lead.

Hammond coach Lauren Harrison said her team was a little bit nervous entering the game.

"We knew they were a very similar team to us," she said.

The Golden Bears have been working on game fundamentals in practice, but specifically on post play.

"The post has been killing us," Harrison said. "We can get it up there and we don't score, so we did a good job of that today."

Three of her team's four goals came from post play.
