River Hill dominated possession for virtually the entire 100 minutes Friday night, but Hammond — backed by a solid defensive outing and a stand-out game by senior goalkeeper Vicki Howard — withstood the pressure and went home with a scoreless tie.
"We went in knowing that this was going to be a playoff type atmosphere, playoffs start next week and we're going to play defense and hoping to counter attack," said Hammond coach Chris Reagle. "They're a tough team. They're a good team. They're going to hold possession and you know, we're hoping for one or two chances and we got a couple close ones at the end and that's how you play playoff soccer. We're preparing for that."
