Howard helps Hammond girls soccer earn tie against River Hill in regular season finale

Highlights of the River Hill versus Hammond girls soccer game. The Hawks and Golden Bears battled through 100 minutes to a scoreless tie in the regular season finale on Friday, Oct. 21 at River Hill High School. (Monica D'Ippolito/BSMG).

River Hill dominated possession for virtually the entire 100 minutes Friday night, but Hammond — backed by a solid defensive outing and a stand-out game by senior goalkeeper Vicki Howard — withstood the pressure and went home with a scoreless tie.

"We went in knowing that this was going to be a playoff type atmosphere, playoffs start next week and we're going to play defense and hoping to counter attack," said Hammond coach Chris Reagle. "They're a tough team. They're a good team. They're going to hold possession and you know, we're hoping for one or two chances and we got a couple close ones at the end and that's how you play playoff soccer. We're preparing for that."
