Hammond volleyball edges Glen Burnie in five sets

Down two sets to one against visiting Glen Burnie on Tuesday night, Hammond volleyball coach Anne Corey said her team just needed to find some consistency.

Fortunately for the Golden Bears (3-3), they found it when their backs were against the wall and earned a come-from-behind, 21-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-8, 15-10 win over the Gophers (1-5).

"We talked a lot about serve receive and serve errors and a lot of the games we lost were all unforced errors on our side – not passing free balls well, too tight to the net," Corey said. "It definitely is great to come off a tough loss to Long Reach. ... It was really important for us to come back and get a solid win against another team."

Corey said one of the best things about her team this year is that they don't quit, no matter the circumstance. They showed that at the beginning of the fourth set and won nine of the first 10 points to cruise to a 25-8 win.

"I think we are a team that often will get down in the lows and just stay there but in a couple games this season, which is different than Hammond teams in the past, we've really come back from being in those low spots and pulled together and executed," Corey said. "I think that was really important tonight."
