Glenelg cross country hosts River Hill and Atholton in mid-season tri-meet

Glenelg hosted River Hill and Atholton at Western Regional Park Wednesday in a mid-season tri-meet.

The Hawks pushed two first-place finishers across, with Jasmine Tiamfook (22:22.2) coming in eight seconds ahead of the pack in the girls varsity race, and Rahul Reddy (18:30) crossing about 25 seconds ahead of second place finisher, the Gladiators Nick Preece.

Along with Preece (18:55.7), Glenelg also had Cara Nardone (22:30.4) place second, finishing in a time of 22 minutes, 30.4 seconds.

The Gladiators Ellen Sawitzki (22:43.9) and Molly Swartz (22:50.1) finished third and fourth, respectively, while teammates Carolyn Keeting (23:46.9) and Katie Melesko (23:59.2) crossed one after another, for seventh and eighth place, respectively.

River Hill's Janie Cai (5th, 23:08.8), Ayaka Ohara (9th, 24:06.6) and Prunavi Sayyaparaju (10th, 24:29.1) rounded out the top-10.

For the past two years the River Hill boy's cross country team has ended its season hoisting a 3A state title and touting a Howard County Runner of the Year.

Cadey Benton was the top-finisher for the Raiders, as she crossed 24th with a time of 26 minutes, 24.2 seconds.

Glenelg's Nathan Coburn and Graham Dilworth followed Reddy and Preece in the boys race, finishing with times of 19 minutes, 17.8 seconds and 19 minutes, 18.2 seconds, respectively.

The Hawks Jake Parker (19:27.4), Anish Nanjeppa (19:33.1), Jake Downing (20:10:10), Kevin Reynolds (20:12) and the Gladiators Cole Dwiggins (19:56.2) and Cole Lahmann (20:15.2) rounded out the top-10. Atholton did not have a runner in the boys varsity race.
