Ten athletes from Emilia's Acrobatic Gymnastics and Cheerleading won gold medals at the Puerto Rico Pan-American Gymnastics Championship from Oct. 6 to 12 in Caguas, Puerto Rico. All ten athletes were named to the United States National Team at the 2015 U.S. Acrobatic National Championship in June 2015 and represented the United States in this competition.

Gold-medal winners were: Londrea Garrett of Columbia, Josephina Kievsky of Elkridge and Emilia Segel of Reisterstown in the Senior Elite Women's Group on the U.S. National Team; Anna Grafov of Ellicott City, Caitlyn Kicza of Woodbine and Lauren Pountnay of Columbia in the Junior Elite Women's Group on the U.S. National Team); and Sean Butehorn of Mt. Airy, Daniel Disman of Clarksville, Grant Shields of Columbia and Sean Shields of Columbia in the Men's 11-16 Age Group for the U.S. National Team.

Soccer

SAC United Blue Boys U10 made it to the finals in the Virginia Beach Columbus Day Tournament, only to lose, 5-4 in overtime, to McCLean Gold. The boys beat McCLean Silver, 8-2, OBX Storm, 11-5, and Prince William Soccer, 14-1.

Running

Forty-nine runners came out on a pleasant afternoon on Oct. 18 to run the Howard County Striders weekly series race at Longfellow Elementary School. Gregg Ford and Kendra Smith were the two-mile winners, and Mark Eagles and Aimee Goldman won the 10K race. Karsten Brown and Cindy Cohen won the 15K race.
