Western Howard County Renegades 12U squad wins title

The 12U Western Howard County Renegades (Forsyth) team won the MABA championship. After losing its first game of the tournament, the team went on a five-game winning streak to win the championship. The Renegades' final two victories came against top teams, including one in extra innings.

Running

There were 29 teams that came out to Oakland Mills High School June 22 to run the Howard County Striders 5-mile 2-person relay. Runners alternate 10 1/4-mile laps until five miles is reached. Sean Caskey and Chris DeCamps were the male winners, Terri Wytko and Pat Keating led the women, and James Blackwood and Samantha Jacobs were the mixed team winners.

The Amanda Post Memorial Fund has awarded the seventh year of the Amanda Post "AmandaWins" River Hill High School Student-Athlete and Soccer Association of Columbia/Howard County Student-Athlete Scholarships.

Samuel Margolis, a four-year competitor in lacrosse, along with cross country and JV football, is the winner of the River Hill scholarship. He is headed to Washington University in St. Louis. Rebecca Higgins from River Hill, who is a 12-year SAC player and a standout on the Hawks' girls soccer team, is the SAC scholarship winner. She is enrolling in the University of Maryland College Park Honors Program.

Both individuals have been awarded a $5,000 scholarship in Amanda's memory to be applied to their freshman year of college. Including this year's recipients, Amanda's memorial fund has now awarded a total of $95,000 to 19 student athletes over seven years.
