River Hill boys golf stays undefeated behind Graves’ big day

Senior Jackson Graves finished with a career-best 26 points, topping his previous high of 25 that he scored against Oakland Mills earlier this fall, to help River Hill improve to 4-0 on Tuesday with a convincing win over Atholton.

Playing at Hobbit’s Glen, the Hawks earned an 85-58 victory over the Raiders. Graves set the pace with his one-over-par round, followed closely behind by Cam Deiuliis (23 points) and Robbie Graham (22). Nate Deiuliis rounded out the team’s scoring with 14 points.

Atholton, playing the match without leading scorer Branden Nguyen, dropped to 1-3 on the season.

Jackson Graves made a birdie on his first hole of the day, six pars and two bogeys en route to his standout day. He had a narrow miss for birdie on his final hole of the day that would have gotten him back to even par.

Freshman Camden Campbell led the way for Atholton with 20 points, marking his third straight round of 20 or more points to open his high school career.

On Wednesday, Atholton will face Oakland Mills at Fairway Hills at 3 p.m., while River Hill returns to action on Thursday at 3 p.m. against Reservoir at Fairway Hills.

“I thought my putting was really good today and the shots I did miss were in good spots. Before I picked the club, I knew where the best miss was. I made smarter decisions than I usually do, especially off the tee not necessarily taking driver every hole.” — Jackson Graves, River Hill

“I feel really good about where we are at because our top three have been really consistent so far. Our fourth hasn’t really transferred what we know they are capable of yet into matches, but I think that’s actually a good thing. We want them to get that experience now so that when we get into those bigger matches later in the season they are ready,” — Jackson Graves, River Hill
