Centennial golf makes early statement with dominant tri-match sweep

Centennial senior Ty Sams was the top scorer for Centennial with 24 points, playing his first five holes in one-under par to set the stage for his round. His lone birdie came on the second hole.

Howard senior Jarrett Maynor scored a team-high 21 points for the Lions, finishing with five pars.

UP NEXT

Next Tuesday, Centennial will face Mt. Hebron at Willow Springs, Howard will play Oakland Mills at Fairway Hills and Atholton will square off against River Hill. All three matches are at 3 p.m.

Senior Morgan Taylor fired a career-best round of 25 points (2-over par) at the Timbers at Troy to lead the way for the Eagles. She made a birdie on the par 3 fifth hole and six pars.

The previous career-high for Taylor was 21 points in a tri-match against Reservoir and Oakland Mills last fall.

The duo of freshman Alana Alexander-Giles and senior Faith McIlvain put together a historic performance at Fairway Hills on Thursday, combining to score 59 points between the two of them. Alexander-Giles put up a three-under-par round of 30 points and McIlvain was right behind her with a two-under 29.

The previous Howard County record for best score by two female teammates in a single match was held by Marriotts Ridge’s duo of Rachel Lee and Lauren Kim, who combined for 55 points in a 2013 tri-match at Waverly Woods.

For Alexander-Giles it was a huge bounce back after scoring 18 points in her high-school debut Tuesday. McIlvain, meanwhile, simply built on her strong opening-day score of 30 points.
