With both the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals advancing to the playoffs this year, Howard County Executive Ken Ulman announced Monday that two county buildings will be illuminated in team colors for what he hopes is a lengthy playoff run, particularly for the Orioles.
Ulman, a noted Baltimore sports fan, has decided to bathe the Howard County Government Headquarters in an orange glow beginning Monday night.
"This is the season that Orioles fans have been waiting for," Ulman said in a statement. "The pitching, the hitting and the fielding have come together, and I'm ready for a playoff run by the Birds that takes us well into October."
To recognize the Nationals playoff run, Ulman said the North Laurel Community Center will be lit in both orange and red as a show of support for both the Orioles and Nationals.
"There may come a time, later in the fall, when the battle lines will really be drawn," Ulman said. "I am taking a small step now to ensure peace and order is maintained off the field."
