Route 32 reopens after fuel spill

Route 32 westbound has been reopened after a fuel spill caused by a collision involving a tractor trailer shut down a portion of the road near the Interstate 95 connection Tuesday, according to Howard County Police.

Police said the road was cleared earlier than expected after originally reporting the road would be closed through rush hour.

Police were called about 1:35 p.m., when a tractor, traveling without an attached trailer, rear-ended a tractor trailer, police said.

The tractor struck the back of the trailer and overturned, spilling fuel on the roadway, police said.

The contents of the trailer have not yet been released, although police said there was "very minimal damage" to the trailer.

Police said the driver of the overturned tractor was transported to Shock Trauma by ambulance in stable condition, with non-life threatening injuries.

Howard County firefighters worked with the state Department of Environment to clean the roadway.

Police said they are investigating the crash and have not determined fault or issued citations at this time.
