Spring and summer are prime times for home improvement and landscaping scams, so be on the alert. Recently a Snowhill Estates resident received a phone call from a purported representative of the Aspen Home Improvement Company. The individual indicated that they will be in the neighborhood and are calling homeowners to schedule free estimates. The resident whose number they called has an unlisted phone number and is on the do-not-call list. It is not clear how the resident's number was obtained. When asked if the company has a website so that their business identity can be verified, the answer was no. When the resident attempted further questioning, the caller hung up. The number from which the unsolicited call was made is 301-810-4039; this number has been reported on various websites as likely being a scam.

With the advent of summer breezes and warm sun, remember that area schools will be closing. We can expect more young folks walking in the neighborhoods, playing ball, etc. Chances that they will play and/or run out in the streets increase. Let's all be careful as we go about our daily routines to ensure that our youngsters have a healthy and happy summer.
