Searching for something unique and out of the ordinary for an upcoming birthday or anniversary? Well, come on out to the Russett Community Association's annual yard sale on Saturday, May 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The yard sale is open to the general public and will be located in front of the Russett Community Center and KinderCare parking lots. There's a treasure trove of items for every enthusiast just waiting to be discovered.
Another event previously mentioned previously is adults-only coloring. Adult coloring is the new way to relax, de-stress and socialize with other adults. If you missed the early adult colorings, here's your opportunity. The following library locations are offering coloring sessions: Maryland City at Russett Community Library on Monday, May 16 at 7 p.m.; and Severna Park Community Library, Tuesday, May 17 at 7 p.m. Additional information can be found at www.aacpl.net. Enjoy!
Congratulations to Freetown and Germantown elementary schools on achieving Green School designations as well as the following Anne Arundel County public schools who received their first re-certifications: Cape St. Claire, Fort Smallwood, Oak Hill, Richard Henry Lee and Riviera Beach elementary schools.
Second re-certifications were achieved by Marley Glen Special School, Severn River Middle School and Southern High School as announced by the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education. West Annapolis Elementary School has earned a new designation as a sustainable school, which basically means the school utilizes sustainable environmental practices as well as implements environmental education into its curriculum.
Maryland now has approximately 70 schools and centers with Green School status and about 56 percent of Anne Arundel County Public School facilities have finished the process to earn the state's highest recognition of environmental literacy. The state Green School Program was established about 20 years ago and once a school has demonstrated a sustained culture of environmental awareness and actions, schools are encouraged to make an effort for re-certification every four years.
Birthday wishes to my dear and close friends, Rachel Wilkie, who celebrates on May 16; Beth Mercier, who celebrates on May 18; Wendy Eastridge Gloor, who celebrates on May 20; and Pauline James, who celebrates on May 26.
