Fire intentionally set at Hammond Park playground

Howard County Police are investigating a small fire on the playground at Hammond Park in North Laurel after a person reported seeing flames early Saturday morning.

Around 2 a.m. May 16, firefighters and paramedics of the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services were called to the playground in the 10000 block of Glen Hannah Drive. Public information officer Marc Fischer said the flames damaged playground equipment and rubber matting beneath a slide.

"The fire marshal ruled it to be an intentionally set fire," Fischer said. "It is being investigated by the fire investigation group and the police department."

The fire department said two individuals were also seen leaving the area on bicycles when firefighters arrived.
