River Hill wrestling, all-access

Howard County Times all-access goes behind the scenes of River Hill's wrestling squad -- helmed by alumnus coach Brandon Lauer, who was undefeated in high school -- as the Hawks take on rival Glenelg. (Jon Sham/Baltimore Sun video)

River Hill wrestling has been a staple in Howard County and among the state's elite for more than a decade. Expectations for the Hawks are always set on winning a county, region and state titles, and gearing wrestlers to win individual championships, something the program has accomplished numerous times.

A year after graduating three state champions, the 2014-15 River Hill team hasn't lowered expectations, and going into the final stretch of the season the Hawks' goals of a state championship was still alive.

But first, River Hill had to get past bitter rival Glenelg. Almost every season going back a decade, the county championship has come down to which team wins the intense Hawks vs. Gladiators dual.

River Hill coach Brandon Lauer, himself a three-time state champion for the school, and his wrestlers allowed Howard County Times Sports to document the team's preparations for the Glenelg match in the next installment of our continuing "all-access" series.
