River Hill girls lacrosse scores early and often in beating Long Reach, 19-6

River Hill senior twins Jenna (eight) and Julia (two) Collins combined for 10 goals and six assists as the Hawks defeated Long Reach, 19-6, Friday afternoon. It was the season opener for the county's public school teams.

River Hill ran out to a 9-0 lead before Imani Sanders put Long Reach on the scoreboard. Nicole Coté had the Lightning's other first-half goal, making the score 10-2.

River Hill then ran off six unanswered goals before the half.

Sanders and Lillie Miller accounted for Long Reach's four second-half goals.

Emily Hamburger and Katie Caddigan each scored three times for River Hill in the game.

The Hawks' freshman keeper Annie Maloney made 10 saves.

Trailing, 6-1, at the half, Centennial stepped up its effort and tightened the score before falling to Glenelg.

"I'm really proud of how my team pulled together in the second half," said Centennial coach Rachel Burton.

"We didn't take care of the ball sometimes," said Glenelg coach Ginger Kincaid of her young squad.

Wilde Lake vs. Howard

A small electrical fire at Wilde Lake caused the school to be evacuated Friday afternoon. That led to the postponement of the Wilde Lake-Howard girls lacrosse game. The game will be played April 2.

Reservoir 18, Hammond 2

Chapelgate won its second Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland C Conference game by beating Key, 13-3.

Emma Rufolo and Christina VanWingerden led the way with four goals each.

Today's game was very well played," said Chapelgate coach Colleen Norton.  "The defense is coming together more and more ach game and (we) played exceptional defense today causing multiple turnovers and grabbing several interceptions."

Chapelgate's first-year goalie Courtney Hayes made several crucial saves.
