A consistent producer for the Gators since his sophomore year, Henry will be looking to build on a junior season where he averaged 10.3 points and 6.6 rebounds a game. (Brian Krista, Baltimore Sun Media Group)

2013-14 record: 16-3, 18-6

Coach: Mike Coughlan

Top players: Seniors Alex Hedgren (C) and Seth Henry (F).

What you need to know: The Gators are coming off back-to-back seasons with 14 or more county victories, taking the program to new heights that included a region title during the 2012-13 season. There's been a significant amount of player turnover, including the graduation of three of the team's top four scorers from a season ago, but the bar remains high.

"There's definitely a lot more teaching this year, but as I told the kids, we are not going backwards just because those guys are gone," coach Mike Coughlan said. "We're going to get these kids to come up and meet where we are and hopefully they are ready to step up and meet the challenge.

"It's a really good group and I'm looking forward to coaching them."

Henry, who has been a major part of the program now since he was a sophomore, is the unquestioned leader. He averaged 10.3 points and 6.6 rebounds a game last winter and should see both those numbers improve.

Hedgren is another key cog back in the fold, although he will spend the first couple weeks of the season on the sidelines as he comes back from a broken bone in his foot. The 6-foot-4 forward averaged six points and almost five rebounds a game last season.

The only other two guys on the roster that have really seen anything in the way of varsity minutes are seniors Alex Obering and Jon Mierzwa.

The silver lining is that there is a large contingent of guys coming up from last year's JV team that had some success, going 16-2.

"The kids are going to get opportunities, it's just a matter of if they are ready," Coughlan said. "Seth is our leader, but I'm hoping he knows it's not all on him. The way we operate, we're at our best when we are a balanced scoring team."
