Howard County boys golf season recap

It was another year of dominance for the Marriotts Ridge boys golf team, which rolled to an undefeated regular season and carried that success over into the program's third straight region and state championships as well.

Bennett Buch was the team's top player, finishing in the top three in every postseason tournament, including a victory at the District V event at Fairway Hills. But it was depth that truly made the Mustangs stand apart from the competition, as the trio of Jackson Courtney, Nick Mejia and John Szymanski were consistent all season.

Overall, it was also a great year individually for Howard County. Highlighted by a terrific senior class, there were five individuals outside of Marriotts Ridge — Mt. Hebron's Patrick Hardy, Centennial's Matt McShane, Atholton's Chris Robinson and Max Rosenthal, and Glenelg's Steven Segrist — that all finished inside the top 50 at the state tournament.

Segrist in particular had a fantastic year, winning the county championship tournament before finishing in the top seven at districts and states.
