2013-14 record: 6-13, 7-16
Coach: Seth Willingham
Top players: Seniors Christian Dargan (G), Jared Noble (F), Walter Okoye (G) and CJ Savage (G); juniors Pat O'Malley (G) and Bryce Shuart (G).
What you need to know: As the Lions get set to begin year two under coach Seth Willingham, the majority of the pieces from last year's team are back. Last year the team had just three seniors on the roster and only one — Michaud Reyna (10.4 ppg) — played significant minutes.
"Last year we played one senior, so we kept the team young and went through some growing pains but got better as the year went on," Willingham said. "Hopefully playing a lot of young guys last year will pay off."
O'Malley, a sharp-shooting guard that made 32 3-pointers as a sophomore, is the team's leading returning scorer (8.6 ppg). Dargan, Savage, Noble and Shuart all were regular contributors as well that produced at least one double-digit scoring effort a season ago.
In addition to the returners, the Lions will also get a boost from a trio of newcomers that all should make an impact in different ways.
Winston Delattiboudere, the Howard County Defensive Player of the Year in football, will bring some of his toughness and leadership to the team. Juniors DJ Dawkins and George Greene, who has transferred back to Howard from Boys Latin, are both expected to be in the rotation as well.
