ESSEX, MD — The Glenelg Country baseball team scored twice in the first inning at Mount Carmel on Thursday afternoon, and the Dragons never let up on their way to a 12-1 runaway victory.
Glenelg Country senior ace Dylan Farnella allowed just one unearned run on four hits and three walks, and racking up 13 strikeouts in six innings to earn the lopsided victory.
Sophomore Will Bartlett led the Dragons at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs.
Colby Manekin, Matt Sheehan and Tim Oh tacked on two hits each adding to Glenelg Country's total of 13.
Mount Carmel put runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings, but came away with only one run on a walk by starting pitcher Jim Lantz, a stolen base and a throwing error. The Cougars advanced runners to third in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but the Dragons came away unscathed each time.
Glenelg Country last won the MIAA B conference crown in 2013, while Mount Carmel last won the title in 2011.
