Lots of locks. That's what was donated by Audrey and Kendra Bower and Emily Robinson in early May when the trio had their hair cut at the Paul Mitchell Training Salon in Jessup. The Jessup salon sends the shorn locks to Pantene Beautiful Lengths in Minnesota, where the hair is made into wigs.Ta;es

Audrey and Emily, both fifth graders at Bushy Park Elementary, along with Kendra, a freshman at Glenelg High School, were inspired to participate after learning about similar donations which are used to create wigs for cancer patients who are experiencing hair loss.

Quick as a bunny. That's the route for fans of rabbits and members of the Hare Raisers 4-H Club on May 23, 9 a.m. to noon, at the Howard County Fairgrounds in West Friendship.

As described by club reporter Danielle Hurd, "Where can you find more than 600 rabbits, highly qualified judges, doling out of award ribbons, delicious refreshments and free admission?" The answer is at a rabbit show.

This year the Hare Raisers-sponsored rabbit show features barns brimming over with rabbits and their owners. The 4-H rabbit owners tend to their herd or "fluffles" by clipping nails, grooming fur and keeping the pens clean. The Hare Raisers show includes judging according to breed with categories of Senior Buck, Senior Doe, Junior Buck and Junior Doe.

The Hare Raisers 4-H members hope their rabbit will be judged Best in Show or Best of Breed or Best Opposite Breed. Danielle encourages the community to come out and join the fun on May 23. This is an event which children love and one in which much about rabbits is to be gleaned.

The young musicians and singers at West Friendship Elementary have been preparing all year for the culminating Spring Concert, which is set for two performances on May 27 at 2:20 and again at 7 p.m. Band instructor Amy Syversen runs a tight ship and her musical "mates" are all on board. Bravo to all.

The St. Andrew's monthly feast is set for May 28, 6-8 p.m., at 2892 Route 97 in Glenwood. "It's Italian with all the trimmings," said Lynne Quinn, who organizes the event. The meal is $9 per person or $30 for the entire family. Dine in or carry out.
