Erin Matthews had me at “$2 dollar sticker sale.” The bargain book sale and tons of other activities — including guest authors, special book sales and a continued enthusiasm for books and all things bibliophile - are part of what is making Books with a Past in Glenwood the community shopping center destination.

Books with a Past, at 2465 Route 97, is a favorite late-winter haunt for those who have cabin fever and want a cozy getaway.

The shopping center will also have a new restaurant opening up next door to the book store in the coming months.

Spring forward. Daylight Savings begins at 2 a.m. on March 10. Crazy winter weather aside, Spring is on the way. From our first light snow on Nov. 15, to the eerie 65 degree temps on Dec. 21, to the first big snow on Jan. 12, ice storms on Feb. 11 and 12, followed by a strange 60 degree day on Feb. 24, we cannot deny it’s been an eclectic mix of weather this year. Early spring bulbs have been observed blooming in West Friendship yards. Before you know it, the roaring parade of lawn tractors and mowers will be a part of our outdoor symphony.

Congratulations to the talented musicians of West Friendship Elementary who were named band members of the month. The students include Arianna Benjamin, Rushil Patel, Leah Sabaka, Meredith Flynn, Lawrence Shi, Haillie Hernandez, Maddie Poole, Isabella Boats, Charlie Matthews, Luca Roman, Isabelle Angarita, Isaac Vogelpohl, Samuel Keiner and Hayden Gill.

Love old cars? Come out to the Chesapeake Region Antique Automobile Club of America event on March 9, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. rain or shine at the Howard County fairgrounds in West Friendship. Flea market items, antique vehicle car corral and more. Free admission and parking.

Howard County fairgrounds will become a sea of tractors, trucks, farm, lawn and garden equipment during Gregory’s Auction Spring Equipment Sale on March 16 beginning at 9 a.m. The auction will go on for most of the day, with several auctioneers selling all manner of equipment. For a listing of some of the sale items, go to gregorysauctions.com.
