It’s the most wonderful time of the year…or is it?

September means school and the beginning of the year means parents are invited to Back-to-School Night. High schools in our area have already held their Back-to-School Nights.


Hammond, Patuxent Valley, Lime Kiln and Murray Hill middle schools have planned Back-to-School Nights for Thursday, Sept. 13. Hammond Middle School parents are invited from 6 to 8 p.m. and the other schools are scheduled from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Atholton kindergarten through second-grade parents will meet teachers and staff on Monday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. Third- through fifth-grade Atholton parents are asked to come on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m.

Gorman Crossing kindergarten families have already met so first- and second-grade families have Back-to-School Nights on Monday, Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m. Parents of Gorman Crossing students in third through fifth grades should come to school on Monday, Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m.

Families of band and orchestra students can attend a brief meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m.

Back-to-School Night is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m. for primary students at Bollman Bridge and Fulton elementary schools. Parents of third- and fifth-graders should plan to come Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 6:30 p.m. at both schools.

Back-to-School Night at Laurel Woods will be at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25 for kindergarten through second-grade parents and 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27 for third- through fifth-grade parents.

It is vital that drivers are careful through neighborhood streets. Students, runners, bikers, walkers and dogs are all out and about this time of year. Please watch out for your friends and neighbors, remember to go slow and be mindful of school buses.

Bingo players will be happy to know that Bingo at the Savage Volunteer Fire Co. hall is back.

Admission is $20 in advance for this purse bingo event.

The Savage Historical Society will meet on Monday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. at the Faith and Ministry Center in Savage. Presenter Wayne Davis is prepared to discuss the topic “Guilford Industrial Historic District” which includes the Patuxent Branch Railroad built in 1902 and decommissioned in 1928. The Savage 7K and one-mile historic walk will be on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 8 a.m. so mark your calendar now. This year’s event will help raise money for exterior renovations needed at the Carroll Baldwin Hall.
