For 28th year, fun on tap at Savage Fest [Savage/North Laurel]

The 28th annual Savage Fest will be on June 6. This is such a wonderful day in our community. The festivities run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a moon bounce, pony rides, petting zoo, magic show, live music and performances by local organizations.

You can learn about local history with reenactments or visit the many booths full of local crafts, food and information. Make some keepsake photos in the magical photo booth. There is something for everyone.

The Savage Historical Society has published a book on the community titled "A Trip down Memory Lane." It will premiere at the Fest. Members will also have their 2016 calendars, It Happens in Savage. I hope to see you there.

Happy Birthday to the North Laurel Community Center. Come out and celebrate our center on Friday, June 5, 6 to 8 p.m. There will be crafts, games and other activities as well of cake and ice cream.

We spent years trying to get this center. Come celebrate it being here for four years. While you are there celebrating, check out all the wonderful programs and facilities they have there.

June seems to be a very busy month for the 50+ Center.

June 8 is a free program called Talkin Broadway. It starts at 1 p.m. and will follow the evolution of Broadways' history through discussion and songs. June 10 will be a presentation called The Other Talk. This is about letting your family your wishes in health, legal and financial issues. It will run 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Also, on June 10 at 11 a.m. is a Cowboy Cookout. There will be games and a social and then at noon, lunch will be a cookout. Afterwards is the Senior Council Ice Cream Social. This will run noon to 2 p.m. Cost will vary.

On June 17 starting at 11 a.m. is a Father's Day Chicken and Fish Fry. There will be blues, country and rock and roll music to enjoy. Cost is $3 plus a lunch contribution. There will also be a Ballroom and Latin Dance class starting June 30 and running through Aug. 4 at 1:30 p.m. Learn the tango, salsa, rumba, samba, waltz and other dance moves. Cost is $52 for 6 classes.

There is also a Women's Social Group that will meet on the first and third Tuesdays on each month starting in June. Come out and share stories and enjoy different activities. All programs require registration by calling 410-313-0380. Make sure you sign up today before any of the programs fill up.

Make sure you have signed up for the Golf Outing to Benefit Atholton Athletics on June 5 at Fairway Hills Gold Club. The cost is $100, will go to support student athletics.
