Francis "Mo" Mowbray served our community as a volunteer firefighter and became chief of the Savage Fire Department until he later moved to Kent Island. Mo passed away recently from cancer.
Those who knew him knew he was a very caring man who always wanted to help others. The Savage Volunteer Fire Company is hosting a night in memory of Mo on April 18. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Dinner is donated from Mission BBQ and is served 6 to 8 p.m. There is a band that starts at 8 p.m., a silent auction, raffles and more.
Come out to enjoy the fun. All proceeds will be donated to the Mowbray family. Tickets or donations can be made online at itrulycare.com/events/a-celebration-of-mo. Cost is $30 per person. Contact Kristin Cox for questions at 240-565-5036.
Hammond High's Global Equality Now has been raising funds to help girls in Mali with their education. Mali is one of the poorest nations and most of the girls never graduate from elementary school. With all the hard efforts of this group, they can provide five scholarships to girls in Mali for school.
By helping children around the world learn to read and write, we are empowering them to gain equality and to rise from their poverty. Way to go!
