Waverly Mansion will be decked out for holiday tours

With help from the Garden Clubs of Howard County, the elves have been busy at work getting the historic Waverly Mansion in Marriottsville ready for holiday tours.

Come out and see the decked out mansion on Sunday, Dec. 7, from 1 to 4 p.m. and enjoy dulcimer music and listen to stories. On Monday, Dec. 8, from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m., take a tour and browse the Greens Sale. Return on Monday evening from 6 to 9 p.m., and listen to the Marriotts Ridge High School Madrigals perform.

Seasonal handmade gifts, crafts and holiday greens will be on sale in the sales tent behind the mansion. All proceeds will benefit the Howard County Garden Club's community service projects.

On Sunday, Dec. 13, Wreaths Across America will be continuing its tradition of 23 years by laying a wreath on the graves of our veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice. It is not too late to purchase a wreath for $15. Our local cemetery, Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, has over 1,000 veterans graves that will hopefully have a wreath laid upon them this year. For those of you who have a sweet tooth, come to downtown Sykesville for the Cookies on Main Street on Saturday, Dec. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. Many participating stores will be handing out homemade cookies and will even give you the recipe to take home.
