Bring your little pumpkins to festivities in Sykesville [Marriottsville]

Sykesville's Pumpkin Carving Contest and Trick or Treat festivities will be held on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 5 p.m. Enter your pumpkin to win Main Street prizes and bring the kids to trick or treat at the shops on Main Street.

There will also be a Haunted Train ride for the kids at the Little Sykes Railway from 5 to 7 p.m. Riders must be at least 3 years old and less than 48 inches.

Interested in learning about the ghosts and legends haunting Sykesville? The town is accepting private tours for 10 or more people on select nights. For more information, call 410-795-8959.

Back by popular demand, National Geographic contributing writer Jennifer Holland will be at the Howard County Conservancy on Sunday, Oct. 26, at 3 p.m. to promote her new book. Ms. Holland had her first two books, "Unlikely Friendships" (with more than 700,000 in print) and "Unlikely Loves," on the New York Times bestseller lists.

This is a wonderful opportunity for children and adults to hear an author describe the process of writing a best-selling book about animals. Her third book will be hot off the press for this program and will be available for purchase and autographs.

The seventh annual Holly Mart will be held at St. James United Methodist Church on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. The craft and vendor show will feature beautiful handmade crafts, bake goods and gently used Christmas decorations and home décor items.

Hot breakfast items will be served from 8 to 11 a.m. and hot dogs will be served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Interested vendors and crafters can contact Janet at 410-442-2020.

Marriotts Ridge High School Boosters' 10th annual Mustang 5K Stampede & 1-Mile Pony Trot will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 9 a.m., rain, shine or snow! For more information go to http://mrhs-boosters.com/stampede
