Woodstock festival long tradition at St. Alphonsus Rodriguez [Marriottsville/Sykesville/Woodstock]

St. Alphonsus Rodriguez Catholic Church in Woodstock will be holding its 101st Annual Woodstock Festival on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 3 to 7 p.m. and Sunday, Aug.14 from 1 to 5 p.m. Once again, country-style fried chicken and ham dinner with all the fixings will be served.

The cost of the dinner is $15 for adults and $7 for children ages 5 to 11. Carry out will once again be available or enjoy a sit-down meal and catch up with friends. Come out and shop the flea market, country store, play games of chance and win many fabulous prizes. This year, a cupcake contest will be held for amateur bakers. Bakers will bake and submit one dozen cupcakes for judging. A recipe must be included and first prize will be awarded with $100 while second place will receive $25. Volunteers are always welcome and needed in various capacities throughout this event. All money raised at this yearly event benefits the parish 100 percent. St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Sykesville is hosting its 2nd Annual Nearly New Sale. Stop by on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 8 a.m to 1 p.m. and shop for lightly-used items ranging from household items, clothes, shoes, purses, outwear, sporting goods, small furniture, kitchenware and more. There will be a children's room and a holiday room as well. The youth group will have light fare and beverages available. All proceeds will benefit the ministries and operations of St. Barnabas. The church is at 13135 Forsythe Road in historic Sykesville.

Turf Valley Towne Square is coming to life every Thursday with its free concert series. Are you a Blues fan? Come out on Thursday, Aug. 4 to hear Bottle of Blues put its spin on non-conventional, bluesy arrangements from modern artists such as Sting and Steely Dan. On Aug. 11, Code Red will entertain with danceable, classic rock from the '60s, '70s and '80s. Come out and listen to a variety of music every Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. all summer long. The Howard County Fair is returning for its 71st year from Aug. 6 until Aug. 13 at West Friendship fairgrounds. The fair will open at 8 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. everyday. Entry fee for seniors is $2 and those guests 10 years and older will pay a $5 entry fee. As always, children under 10 are free. Branches of Yoga will be holding a free outdoor yoga class on Friday, Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. Whether your yoga skills are advanced or you are a beginner, all levels are welcome. While this is a free event, registration is required by emailing Stacey@branchesofyoga.com. This event will be held in downtown Sykesville on the lawn by the Town House. Bring a towel, mat and water and come out to enjoy yoga outside.
