The annual Woodstock Festival, still going strong after 98 years, will take place on Saturday, Aug. 10, 3-7 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 11, 1-5 p.m., at 10800 Old Court Road, in Woodstock, at St. Alphonsus Rodriguez Catholic Church.
Dining and playing together are great ways to strengthen a community, as evidenced by the annual Woodstock Festival, still going strong after 98 years. This summer's event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 10, 3-7 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 11, 1-5 p.m., at 10800 Old Court Road, in Woodstock.
St. Alphonsus Rodriguez Catholic Church hosts the festival, which includes not only a family-style fried chicken and ham dinner, but also a large flea market, games of chance, a classic car display and free children's activities, such as a moon bounce, train rides and face painting.
The dinner costs $13 for adults and $7 for children ages 4-11, and carryout is available. Call 410-461-5267 for more information.
Unfortunately, dining out is not an option for a growing number of families in our area that are in need of grocery assistance. If you know someone who may benefit from this type of aid, please pass along the following information.
The Glenelg United Methodist Church food pantry will hold its monthly opening on Saturday, July 20, from 9 to 11 a.m., at 13900 Burntwoods Road, in Glenelg. Direct any inquiries to firstname.lastname@example.org or 410-489-7260. GUMC pantry is still well-stocked with food donations, but always welcomes monetary donations to help fill in supplies where needed.
Mt. Zion United Methodist Church will also hold the inaugural opening of its new Open Doors Food Pantry on Saturday, July 20, from 10 a.m. to noon, at 12430 Scaggsville Road (Route 216) in Highland. Guests must bring ID to check in.
The church plans to fund its food pantry in several ways — loose change donations in the collection plate, a Scrip gift card program, a coupon collection program, and Scout-run food drives. Of course, additional donations are also welcome; simply write a check payable to "Mt. Zion UMC" and note "food pantry" in the memo line.
Take note — St. Andrew's Episcopal Church will not hold its monthly community feast in July. Make sure to check back in August for more information.
