The eighth grade students at Mount View Middle School went back in time with their portrayals of different freedom fighters from the past at their wax museum June 9 and 10. From Amelia Earhardt to Harriet Tubman, students researched the lives and accomplishments of many heroes of our time.
Leland Slack portrayed Benjamin Davis Jr., the first African American general in the U.S. Air Force as well as the commander of the World War II Tuskegee Airmen. Tyler Wise depicted Madam CJ Walker, the first American woman to become a self-made millionaire with her beauty products for an African-American hair care line.
While there was a suggested list of hero's students could have chosen from, many students chose heroes they wanted to represent. According to Theresa Bollard, English/Language Arts teacher, "Students were given a suggested list, but many convinced us teachers of the "freedom" merits of their choice."
Congratulations to all the eighth grade students who participated in this annual event.
