On Wednesday, May 20, the Marriotts Ridge High School PTSA awarded four seniors a $1,500 scholarship in recognition of their commitment to the mission of Marriotts Ridge High School – exemplifying honor and excellence in all that we do.These students were chosen based on their essays describing their challenges and successes.Congratulations to the following seniors who graduated on Thursday, May 28 and are headed to college: Cameron Coster, WVU; Eric Hermstein, University of Maryland College Park; Zachery Spickler, USC; and Ashley Wilson, Stevenson University.

There are still plenty of tickets available for the 2015 Woodstock Maryland Music Festival on Saturday, June 20. This year's headlining performance will be the 10,000 Maniacs with opening performances by local artists Silhouette Song and Vanessa Collier. Tickets are on sale now for $50 and can be ordered by going to woodstockmd.org. Children under the age of 12 will get in for free. The gates will open at 5 p.m. at 10800 Old Court Road in Woodstock. Please bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. Outside coolers and food will not be allowed inside the gate but there will be plenty of food, wine, beer and beverages available at various kiosks for purchase throughout the event. Come out and join community members at the next St. Andrew's Italian Feast on Thursday, June 25, from 6-8 p.m.St. Andrew's Church is on Route 97, between Union Chapel Road and the post office in Glenwood. The cost is $9 per person or $30 per family and children age 5 and under are free. Smokin' Hot Bar & Grille in the Inwood Shopping Center generously donates dinner. Proceeds from this dinner will benefit The Anglican Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf, which provides relief to thousands of displaced and persecutedChristian refugees in Iraq and in refugee camps.For more information on this organization, go tocypgulf.org. The Howard County Conservancy is preparing for one of its most popular family programs – Fiddlers and Fireflies, on Thursday, June 25 from 6-9 p.m. Bring a picnic dinner, blankets and lawn chairs and begin your summer with this yearly event. A local favorite, Steve Hickman and his band, will serenade families with fiddles and old-time songs. While enjoying the music and scenery, you will learn interesting facts about fireflies and kids will be able to make a firefly craft. Don't forget that every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. you are invited to come down to Main Street in Sykesville for the local Farmer's Market. Come out and support local farmers and choose from fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs and dairy as well as homemade foods and crafts. Live entertainment will be provided most weekends.
