Mustang tennis team hits aces at tournament [Marriottsville/Sykesville/Woodstock]

The Howard County Tennis Tournament was held at the Wilde Lake Tennis Center May 5-9, with several Marriotts Ridge Mustangs placing in the top spots.

In the Girls Singles, Abby Thornton, 1st place; Boys Singles, Cade Buch, 3rd place; Boys Doubles, Connor Bivens and Christian Tringali, 2nd place; and Boys Alternate Tournament, Ishan Shaw, 2nd place.


Abby Thornton, Connor Bivens and Christian Tringali will be returning once again to represent Marriotts Ridge at the State Tennis Tournament held at the University of Maryland, College Park on May 22.

Congratulations to all the tennis players and their coaches and good luck at states!


With spring in the air and summer not too far off, Sykesville Farmers' Market has returned! Come down to Main Street in Historic Sykesville every Sunday from May 10 until Oct. 4. The market will be available on Sundays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and feature locally grown fruits and vegetables, meat, eggs and dairy along with homemade food and crafts. Come out and join community members at the next St. Andrew's Italian Feast on Thursday, May 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. St Andrew's Church is on Route 97, between Union Chapel Road and the Post Office in Glenwood. The cost is $9 per person or $30 per family and children age 5 and under is free.

Proceeds from this dinner will benefit St. Andrew's Vacation Bible School this summer. This year's theme is "Hearing God's Call" and is designed for rising Kindergartners through 5th graders on July 20 to 24 from 9 a.m. until noon. Registration will be available until July 14. The Knights of Columbus at St. Alphonsus Church will present the 2015 Woodstock Maryland Music Festival on Saturday, June 20. This year's headlining performance will be 10,000 Maniacs with opening performances by Silhouette Song and Vanessa Collier.
