Marriotts Ridge High School is marking its 10-year anniversary with a celebration on Saturday, May 30. It will be held at the high school and all community members, alumni, former staff and students, parent volunteers and local businesses are all invited.
This will be a free event, but there will be food, games and carnival activities for purchase. More information will follow in this column so mark your calendars for May 30 for an anniversary celebration that will be one for the ages.
St. James United Methodist Church will hold its Spring Fling on Saturday, May 9, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at 12470 Old Frederick Road in Marriottsville. Come and peruse through bedding and vegetable plants, hanging baskets and many one-of-a-kind flea market finds.
The Fellowship Hall will have hot breakfast, lunch items and of course a bake sale. All proceeds will benefit the United Methodist Women and the St. James Camp Hope Team. St. Andrew's Church in Glenwood will hold a flower, herb and vegetable sale on Saturday, May 9, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Come out and choose from annuals, garden flowers, hanging pots as well as vegetables, herbs and Mother's Day planters. All proceeds from this sale will benefit the Youth Pilgrimage trip in July 2015.
Looking for a nice way to spend Mother's Day and celebrate mom? Come out to the Howard County Conservancy on Saturday, May 9, at 10 a.m., and enjoy a beautiful springtime morning sipping tea and sampling homemade scones at the historic Brown sisters' farmhouse.

On April 10, many schools participated in an event called Battle of the Books at Howard High School. A Bushy Park Elementary team called the Literature Detectives came in third place in the competition.
