Come hungry to St. Barnabas pig roast in Sykesville [Marriottsville/Sykesville/Woodstock]

Come one, come all to the St. Barnabas Pig Roast on Saturday, April 25, from 7 until 11 p.m.

This event is back by popular demand and will be held at the American Legion Hall in Sykesville at 7327 Slacks Road. In addition to a roasted pig, guests will also dine on sides and desserts provided by Kevin's Catering. The American Legion will provide a cash bar.

While you are perusing the silent auction, money wheel and raffles, Gray Fox 1 will be providing live music.

Congratulations to the entire fifth grade Advanced Band at West Friendship Elementary School. On Saturday, April 11, the advanced band, led by Amy Syverson, band director, attended the Howard County Solo and Ensemble Festival at Ellicott Mills Middle School. All band members performed in their chamber ensembles for judges' comments on their work.

Students have been practicing once a month since August and did a fabulous job! On Alto Saxophone, Noble Przyborowski and Kevin Liu. On Clarinet, Megan Boyce, Megan Wagner and Grace Hejeebu. In Flute, Hannah Coomber, Ella Walchko, Diana Chatrchi, Anna Hebner, Anastasia Lindquist and Brenna Fenlon. On Percussion, James Herman, Rachel Roberts, Niko Sambat, Daniel Tuma, Jai Vaichalkar and Brady Fenlon. Playing Tenor Saxophone was Kierstin Delk. On Trombone, Jack Remmel and Jayden Spitulnik. On Trumpet, DJ Lindahl, Neha Dave and Michael Yencha. Playing Tuba was Tyler Gladstone. Congratulations to the entire Advanced Band!

The Howard County Conservancy will host its annual Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 25, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant in Woodstock. Activities will include a bird hike, led by the Howard County Bird Club, tree planting, invasive species removal and the event will conclude with a Children's Earth Day craft activity.

Families and groups of all ages are welcome and everyone is encouraged to bring a picnic lunch. This is a free event, but participants are encouraged to register by going to the website http://www.hcconservancy.org.

It's time to start thinking about Vacation Bible School. St James United Methodist Church's VBS is from July 6 to 10, 9 a.m. to noon. Children age 3 through 5th grade are invited to participate. The next St. Andrew's Italian Feast is Thursday, April 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. St Andrew's Church is on Route 97, between Union Chapel Road and the post office in Glenwood. The cost is $9 per person or $30 per family and children age 5 and under are free.

Come out to St. Andrews on Saturday, April 25, from 6 to 8 p.m., for bingo. Tickets are $15 each and may be purchased at the door. All proceeds will benefit the youth pilgrimage this summer.
