Conservancy offers this advice: Take a hike [Marriottsville/Sykesville/Woodstock]

The second Saturday of every month at the Howard County Conservancy, you can participate in a guided hike on the 232-acre Mt. Pleasant Farm in Woodstock. The Conservancy's property borders Patapsco State Park so come out on April 11 at 10 a.m. and take a hike down to the river.

April is the month for blooming flowers, trees and new wildlife. This will be a two-hour tour with easy to moderate walking including some rocky areas on the trails. Make sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water.

This event is free, but registration is necessary. Register on line through the website at http://www.hcconservancy.org or call 410-465-8877. Make sure to check the website if weather is questionable.

On Saturday, April 11, from 8 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. the second Kids Nearly New Sale will be held in the main exhibition hall at the Howard County Fairgrounds. Over 140 spaces will be filled with families, crafters and services selling children's items ranging from clothing, toys, furniture, etc. For more information, go to http://www.kidsnearlynewsale.com.

On Sunday, April 12, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., return to the fairgrounds for the first bazaar located in the main exhibition hall. There will be something for everyone ranging from crafters, antiques to a flea market sale. This is a free event with plenty of parking. The Howard County Library is always offering classes for children, teens and adults. From movies to finger painting and learning how to illustrate books, there is something for everyone.

One of the classes the Glenwood Library is offering is Inspiring Illustrators on Monday, April 13, at 4:30 p.m. This class is for ages 6 and up and will run 45-60 minutes.

Students will learn how pictures enhance stories by reading and discussing works from several different authors. Students will then have an opportunity to apply what they have learned and pull from their own imagination to create an art project. Registration for this event is required.

On Saturday, April 18, chemistry lovers can join a chemist from the American Chemical Society for hands-on experiments at 11 a.m. This class is for ages 7 and up and an adult must accompany 7- and 8-year-olds. Registration for this event also requires registration.
