It's official!! The annual Mother-Daughter Banquet sponsored by Calvary Lutheran Church will he held on Saturday, May 20, at 6 p.m. This is the 46th year for this memorial celebration of all mothers. Each year a great skit is presented by the women of the church with this year's title "Ms. Central Maryland Pageant" promising to be a fun presentation that will provide opportunities for lots of laughter. Any and all females are encouraged to attend; church members and non-church members, family, friends and neighbors.

The event is held at Calvary Methodist Church on Main Street in Mt. Airy. The event begins with a meal catered by the men of the church. Cost to those 12 years and older is $15; ages 5 to 11 is $12; and those under 5 are free. Tickets can be purchased by contacting Robyn Embrey at 410-795-3846 or rembrey@comcast.net.

Congratulations to the Glenelg High School Music Department which just returned from the Orlandofest in Orlando, Florida. The fest included competition among 10 schools from across the United States. The school, and especially the music directors, Kevin George, Ross Rawlings and Christopher Winters, are proud not only of the music departments' performance record but also of its demonstration of professionalism and respect and for being great school ambassadors while in Orlando.

The band won first place and a superior rating in all of the divisions in which it competed: Symphonic, Jazz Ensemble, Marching Unit, Color Guard and Drill Team. The orchestra, including both strings and full orchestra, won first place and superior ratings while the choir also won first place and a superior rating in Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, third place in Men's Choir and second place in Women's Choir. Kyle Daly won the outstanding vocal soloist. Chamber Singers also won best-overall vocal ensemble. The outstanding music tradition at Glenelg continues to shine.

The Lisbon United Methodist Church is sponsoring a community yard sale on Saturday, May 13 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Lunch will be available. All spaces are free. For more information or to reserve a space, call Dan at 410-489-9519.

The Animal Medical Hospital on Route 97 is sponsoring an open house on Saturday, May 13. There will be children's activities including face painting and pony rides, a hospital tour and educational displays of medical techniques like laser therapy, dental care and X-rays. Vendor booths, raffles and door prizes are additional attractions. Come talk to the veterinarians and learn more about the care of your pet.
