"The Spring Flower Show Many Splendored Thing:
" 'A Many Splendored Thing' has been chosen the theme of the 1965 Howard County Spring flower show. Presented by the eight garden clubs of the county, the show will take place Friday April 23, at St. John's Parish House, St. John's Lane and Route 144. The public is invited from 2 until 9 P.M.
"Artistic categories include such imaginative classes as 'It's Magic,' 'Days of Wine and Roses,' 'Hearts are Trumps' and 'Fascination.'
"A large majority of the Horticultural classes are devoted to the many species of narcissi. flowering shrubs, fruited trees, tulips and other spring flowers are also included.
"Conservation, civic development, landscape design, and 'Keep Maryland Beautiful' are the themes of the educational exhibits."
"Love is a Many Splendored Thing," was a popular song and 1950 movie set in Hong Kong with the movie's lovers played by William Holden and Jennifer Jones. "Days of Wine and Roses" was also a song and a 1962 movie with Jack Lemmon, Lee Remick and Jack Klugman. Both movies won some Oscars.
"Hill to Attend Ayrshsire Meeting
"Allen Hill, of Woodbine, an officer in the Howard County Ayrshire Group, will attend the 90th national meeting of the Ayrshire Breeders' Association in Wilmington, April 22-24. It is expected that cattlemen from the United States, Canada, the British Isles and South America will attend this year's event hosted by the Maryland-Delaware Ayrshire Association."

"Tableaux at Grange Hall: Musical and Other Features of the Program
"Glenwood: The entertainment at the Grange Hall, Monday evening, was quite a success both socially and financially. Those who had it in charge deserve a great deal of credit for the manner in which it was conducted. the young ladies who participated were strikingly beautiful in the different tableaux. The attendance reached about a hundred.
"After a chorus, a duet by the Misses Linthicum, and a solo by Miss Ida Matthews, the curtain arose upon a very striking tableau, entitled the 'The Year's Review'. Miss Mary Matthews as Spring, represented her character without a fault. Miss Gertrude Matthews, Miss Effie Hammond and Miss Maggie Linthicum represented the remaining seasons very successfully."
"County Brevities: Extra eastbound freight engine No. 429 of the B and O. Railroad Wednesday morning ran into the rear of extra freight 482, between Marriottsville and Sykesville on the main stem, damaging a box car loaded with corn and a gondola car loaded with coal. Three other cars were derailed.

"Mr. Samuel S. Owings sold last week to Mr. J.E. Poland two steers whose aggregate weight was 2,273 pounds. the animals were considered the finest ever taken out of Howard County. They were disposed of in New York. Mr. Owings received 4 l/2 cents per pound for the animals."
