Changes on Fels Lane
"Fels Lane May Get Food Market
"Even before all of the residents of Fels Lane have moved into the Hilltop Housing Project, a supermarket chain has approached the county about building a small food market in the Ellicott City section, the county executive reported this week.
"Omar J. Jones said that at present the county 'was just exploring the possibilities' for the lower section of Fels Lane. All the buildings there but the old county jail and courthouse are set for demolition. Mr. Jones explained that a large storm-drain pipe will be laid in the bed of the Little Tiber and that the grade of the area will be raised by about three feet.
"Three acres of land will eventually be available along Fels Lane, the county executive said. Much of it might be used for parking, he added. Demolition of the uninhabited buildings along Fels Lane is already underway."

Snow drift traps school bus
"County School Bus Held By Snow Over 4 Hours: None Of Eight Clarksville Pupils Injured As Carrier Skids From Road Near Highland; Road Crew Reports 11-Foot Drifts In Upper County
"Yesterday's heavy snow piled drifts over 10 feet in depth at several points on Howard County roads, held up a school bus carrying eight youngsters for several hours and caused no end of complaints from residents of this area.
"The bus, which was finishing its trip from the Clarksville school, struck a drift on Mink Hollow Road, near Highland, skidded off the highway and stuck fast. The driver, E. Walter Scott, finally managed to contact the county roads department, but the bus was not released until nearly 8 p.m.
"Parents of the youngsters came for them in their cars and all were taken home without injuries. All county schools were closed at 2 p.m. Fortunately the bus, one of the county's newest, was heated."

"Members intend to free scores of rabbits on farms in the community and to add to the stock of fish in the Patapsco. They also hope to hatch several dozens of partridge and pheasant eggs in incubators and release the young birds in that area."
