Spotlight on scholars at Reservoir High School [Fulton/Highland]

Reservoir High School senior Mikal Walcott is a semifinalist in the 51st annual National Achievement Scholarship Program, which includes the top 1 percent of more than 160,000 African American students who took the 2013 PSAT. He'll find out in January if he is named a finalist. Congratulations, Mikal.

Another RHS senior, Sachin Kuruvilla, was designated a National Merit semifinalist by virtue of scoring in the top 1 percent of the more than 1.5 million participants that took the 2013 PSAT. Congratulations, Sachin.

Those seniors that ranked in the top 5 percent are designated National Merit Commended Students Reservoir High School has seven — Siya Bhagat, Anna Kim, Brian Knoblett, Stephen Sims, Puja Trivedi, Mikal Walcott and Thomas Wood. Congratulations.

The Lime Kiln Middle School students of the week for the week ending Oct. 17 are Cory Butts, Jaden Gallman, Sabrina Ventoso, Eric Norris, Beulah Andoh, Devin Hill, Eric Lam, Elias Adams and Madison Dzubak. Congratulations to each of you. Keep up the good work!

The annual St. Francis Christmas Bazaar is Friday, Nov. 7, from 6 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be local crafters, baked goods, a silent auction, a wine raffle, a book sale, plus eats. Stop by and get a jump on holiday shopping.

For the last several years, the Glen Mar United Methodist Church of Ellicott City puts on a Christmas pageant called "Walk to Bethlehem", an outdoor display that centers around the arrival of the Christ child.

Led by guides, you will journey through that ancient time where actors, dressed in period costumes, portray leading up to and immediately following the birth of Jesus. This year, the event takes place on Dec. 5, 6 and 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, it will also take place on Dec. 8.
