It's Christmas Bazaar time again at St. Francis [Highland/Fulton]

Yet another year has flown by. Before you know it, we'll be deep into the 2014 winter holiday season. Mark your calendars for the next big shopping event — the annual St. Francis of Assisi Christmas Bazaar.

The dates and times for the bazaar are Friday, Nov. 7, from 6 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

For the crafters and local vendors, now is the time to reserve your spot. Space is limited and time's-a-wasting! An 8- by 8-foot space for both days is $70 and includes a table for your wares. Your space contact is Martie Nagle at mclnagle01@verizon.net or 301-490-9446.

Silent auction donations are also being sought. Examples of items are donated services such as chimney sweeps, auto detailing, catering, vacation spots, gift cards, tutoring sessions to name just a few. Items donated to the bazaar can be tax deductible.

Contact Martie Nagle at mclnagle01@verizon.net or 301-490-9446 or Karen Larkin at klarkin@nbcllc.com or 301-651-9344. Come and find that special gift for that special someone. It's a great time and helps the parish too.

Brian Nelson, the director of communications for Emmanuel United Methodist Church located on Old Scaggsville Road in Scaggsville, was kind enough to let me know about an upcoming event that can have far-reaching impact.

Do you have a working bicycle gathering dust in your garage, basement or shed? Or, how about a portable sewing machine that is laying about, unused? "Bikes for the World" (BikesForTheWorld.org) will be on hand at the church to accept your old bikes or sewing machines (plus a suggested $10 cash donation to help defray shipping costs).

Goodwill Industries will also be on hand to collect electronics in any condition (sorry, no TVs) and any other donated items that are gathering dust in your home.

Finally, members of the church will be on hand to collect any rigid plastics, rechargeable batteries, Styrofoam, packing materials (bubble wrap, packing peanuts) and eye glasses. For more information, go to eumclaurel.org.recycle or call the church at (301) 725-5200.
