When I think back to my time in grade school (a long time ago), the best that I could hope for regarding any drawings I may have made in school was to see them displayed on the fridge. My, how times have changed.

For example, some of the kindergarten students in Abigail Watson's class from Fulton Elementary School will see their artwork displayed at the Howard County Public School System's "Kindergarten Showcase," which runs from now through April 8 at the Department of Education Central Office.

The students whose works will be displayed are Jalynn Choe, Hannah Chung, Jackson Lasecki and Jason Bilger. Congratulations to these fine young artists.

The Fulton Elementary School Kids for Character for the month of December are kindergarteners Zachary Oros and Riley Fitzpatrick; first grader Malia Parlette; second grader Maci DelTufo; third grader Ashleigh Moreno, fourth grader Caroline Borleis and fifth grader Christian Maiorana. Congratulations to each of you, Keep up the great work!

Over at Lime Kiln Elementary School, the following students were named students of the week for the week ending Feb. 6: Cameron Allen, Jacqueline Romo, Aminah Malik, Victoria Bradford, Shakir Sayed, Carol Wang, Priyal Patel, Alexander Braisted, Greta Kluckhuhn and Andrew Qian.

At St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fulton, there was a "changing of the guard", so to speak. Pastor Rod Ronneberg, longtime senior pastor of the church, recently retired and his associate pastor, the Rev. Carolyn Shank, was elected by the congregation as his replacement.

Pastor Carolyn is a local lady who grew up in Brooklyn Park, a suburb just south of Baltimore City. She's a 2005 graduate of Towson University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology and anthropology. She then went on to Divinity School at Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, Pa., where she earned her Master of Divinity degree in 2009.

Then, in February of 2010, she was ordained a Minister of the Gospel. In December of 2012, she began her ministry at St. Paul's as the Interim Associate and was called as the Associate Pastor in November 2013.

Pastor Carolyn's work focuses on youth and family, confirmation and Christian education. She is a World Hunger leader and hopes to continue working on hunger-related issues in the Delaware-Maryland Synod. In 2013, she married her husband, the Rev. David C. Shank, a Methodist minister.
