Lime Kiln student nominated to be a Carson Scholar [Highland/Fulton]

Do you remember Dr. Ben Carson, the world renown pediatric neurosurgeon? In 1994, he and his wife Candy, founded Carson Scholars Fund Inc., a nonprofit organization that “seeks to combat the American education crisis by discovering promise and rewarding excellence in our nation’s youth through (the) Scholarship programs.” Taylor Larkins, an eighth-grade student at Lime Kiln Middle School, has been nominated for the scholarship program because of his excellent 4.0 GPA and extensive community service activities. He regularly volunteers at the Open Doors Food Pantry and Food on the First and is currently working on his Eagle Scout project to coordinate and assemble 100+ personal-care packages to benefit the folks at the Laurel Winter Shelter. Good luck to Taylor during the selection process.

The following LKMS students are the winners of the “Young Author’s Contest: Sixth-Grade Poem: “A Dog to Remember,” by Avery Oergel; Seventh-Grade Poem: “Two-Faced,” by Serena Goyal; Seventh-Grade Short Story: “A Soldier’s Paradox,” by Ellie Hasegawa; Eighth Grade Poem: “Wanderlust,” by Kimberly Noelle Gordon; and Eighth-Grade Short Story: “Flightless,” by Mehar Sandhu.
